Gloria Taraniya Ambrosia to visit May 10 & 11

The Buddhist Sangha of South Jersey will sponsor a Day of Mindfulness on Saturday, May 10th at the Moorestown Friends Meeting, 118 E. Main Street, Moorestown, NJ. Registration will be at 9:00 AM and the program will be from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Gloria Taraniya Ambrosia, a Buddhist in the Vipassana tradition, will be our guest teacher.

The theme for the day will be, “Making Karma work for us, instead of against us.” In the Buddhist teachings, karma means actions through body, speech and mind. Without understanding and skillful practice, our actions are largely driven by habit. We tend to repeat patterns of behavior and thought -- whether or not they serve us. Through Insight Meditation, we learn to relate to karmic patterns in ways that make it possible for us to overcome useless and hurtful patterns. We grow and change because we see, at very deep levels, what serves us and what does not. In essence, we learn to align ourselves with what is skillful. In this one-day retreat/workshop we will learn how we discover the law of karma for ourselves and how to work skillfully within this law of nature.

Gloria Taraniya Ambrosia has been a Dhamma teacher since 1990. She is a student of the western forest sangha, the disciples of Ajahn Sumedho and Ajahn Chah, and is a Lay Buddhist Minister in association with Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery in California. She served as resident teacher of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts from 1996 through 1999. Taraniya teaches at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies and at Dhamma centers in the United States.

We will provide help in how to meditate and do several sittings. The program also includes talks by Taraniya, outdoor walking meditation (weather permitting) and other mindfulness practices. Please bring your own lunch. We have some mats and cushions but it would help if you brought your own.

The suggested donation for the day is $25.00. No advance registration is necessary.

For more information, call (609) 953-9215 or E-Mail us.

Taraniya will also visit BSSJ at our regular Sunday night meeting on May 11th.
